It is 5:08pm in Seattle a weak gray light seeps between buildings. The street lamps throw jaundiced yellow splashes on the concrete. It will be full dark soon.
Just last week it was staying light till 6pm. Once winter starts to slide into Seattle it happens fast. Soon it will be dark at 4:30pm.
This is the time of year when I have to overhaul my schedule to try and engage in some of the available sunlight.
I struggle with going to bed earlier and waking up to enjoy some of the dwindling day.
Last night i went to bed at 4am. So, yeah, I woke up at noon…ate, worked, did laundry and left the apt for the first time at sunset…
How do you deal with the winter time schedule adjustments? Does the winter months dark affect your mood? Do you have a hard time adjusting?
It just keeps gettin lighter down here baby!
When I think on winter-short days in Maine, I get all nostalgic. But it’s just b/c I don’t have it. When I get there this Dec. it’ll feel novel at first but then just sad.
I don’t really struggle with the time change … I always get up while it’s dark and go to bed when it’s dark, so the only difference is the portion of the day with light. I’ve gotten lucky, though. Living in the southern part of the U.S. makes a huge difference. When I lived in the Midwest, I worked during the light-time hours and never saw a ray of sunshine during the week.
Getting ready to switch base to Stockholm with a lot of time spent up in Northern Sweden too.
Definitely not looking forward to those cold, hard, and dark winter nights.
Guess I’ll just spend the time getting cosy…
