Best Bike Routes in Seattle : Pioneer Square to Eliot Bay Marina

12 Jan

I love to bike. Uphill downhill, through alleys, off-road…anywhere I can get my wheels spinning! Since I don’t have a car in Seattle, biking is also my fastest means to get from A to B. Aside from being practical, my time riding is relaxing and a very inspiring way from me to get to know my city.

Here is one of my favorite rides along the waterfront. Best taken around sun set, this path is easy and takes you along the edge of the Puget Sound, though rail yards to Eliot Bay Marina. I am actually about to hop on my bike and take this spin right now! If you are ever in Seattle and want to ride, give me a holler.

4 MILES ONE WAY, NICE AND LEVEL THIS GIVES YOU A GREAT VIEW OF THE WATER, THE SHIPPING LANES AND A LITTLE USED BIKE PATH.ENJOY!

That’s one of my favorite rides, too. When I lived in Lower Queen Anne, I used to go through the Seattle Center ( the International Fountain is great fun to bike in, when it’s empty ) and then take Third down to the ID, then head to the waterfront, take the bike trail to Myrtle Edwards, up to Smith Cove, or sometimes Dravus, and then I’d bike up Mercer and go home. I moved to Eastlake more than a year ago, and don’t’ do this ride as often as I used to … but it’s always wonderful when I do.

Once the bike trail ends, a little north of Pike’s Place ( around Pier 66, I think ), and turns into sidewalk in front of the hotels and such, do you stick with the trail/side walk, or go into the street? I can never decide which is the better way to go at that point…

[…] My roommate and longtime friend Paul ( we met in 6th grade in Ms. Jones class and promptly commenced dedicating thousands of hours to anime, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter ) went shopping for a new bicycle for me. I have been riding the same bike for 5 years ( previously owned by my wife, bought used ) and have rode that sucker into the ground. In the two years I have had my odometer tracking my bike trips I have rode over 2,000 miles, just around Seattle. […]
